It's three months or more out from my next Himalayan Stroll, but now is the time I must start preparation.
When I was younger, I could leave the prep until the month before I left but oh, so vulnerable was I.
So, it's time to dust off the rice filled back pack, dig out my old backup pair of hiking boots that don't care too much about pavement wear and begin the 30-40 minutes play each day.
And play is what it is. Anything else turns my beautiful journey into a pain in the butt. I don't compete, try to beat anyone, just each day, throw on the ipod and some interesting podcasts, put the heart rate meter on and set it to 70-80% MHR and go play.
Sometimes I do steps, sometimes a walk, others I go to a park and do repetitive step ups. Always with the goal of enjoying the beauty of nature. It's a double whammy, I get fit and I meditate on the run.
So, if there's anyone out there thinking, "I wonder if I should go with Chris this year" - now is the time to start preparing so that, you do have the option when the time comes.
Cheers - or Namaste as we say in Nepal.
